Some in my area consider Morning Glories
WEEDS
now tell me
those of you who know.
Are there some FLOWERS that are technically
WEEDS?
I don't have a clue.
I know this
I love Morning Glories
When my children were young
I would take some stuffing,
the kind you put in pillows etc, just the cheap stuff
put it is a plastic dish
put barely warm water on it
Then Sprinkle the MG seeds on it
In a very short time
They germinated and then we planted them
they aren't weeds to me
Dandelions,
yes they are weeds
but when given to me by a child
they are FLOWERS to me
It's all in your perspective
Isaiah 40:8
The grass withereth,
the flower fadeth:
but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

I don't know about morning glories, but there are many flowers that I love that my mom & dad consider weeds. It isn't that they are really weeds, but because they spread and take over the garden. I tell them to let me know when they are going to be 'weeding' because I'll come and collect what they don't want! some of the flowers they treat like weeds are shasta daisies, johnny jump ups, and lambs ears. I love them all!
OK...when I was a kid, we had to go out with a small spade and dig out all the dandelions. Until I was 20, and then I had dandelion in a salad.
So I changed my opinion. Jump forward to living in the desert, I think that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Many would think that barren dry land is drab....but to me it is lovely, filled with beauty. So flowers that bloom bring beauty.
How's that?
My Father-In-Law always told me that weeds are any plant that is growing where it is not wanted. I don't know how true that is, but it sounds good! I don't know how anyone could think the Morning Glory is a weed! It's so beautiful!
Ummm... I know another one of your faves that is a weed to me! Poppies! They still come up in that front flower bed on our "other" house.. you know where I am talking about... just from that one time of you sprinkling some seeds in there.. they come back each and every year!
Love you!
I love morning glories too, Deby. They CAN take over in areas, wrapping around other flowers and choking them out.
I feel the same way about dandelions. If given to me by a child, they are beautiful!
This reminded me of a time when Ashleigh was little and she had made a flower bed out of an old raised bed we had used for a garden at one time. She planted a little packet of seeds and faithfully watered...however it wasn't the flowers that came up, but the weeds. We didn't even know it (because there were actual blooms on the weeds) until someone who had more knowledge about such things, told us. Ashleigh was so heartbroken!
I too love morning glories Deby. and I love honeysuckle which many consider to be a weed. I agree with you on the dandelions.
For sure Morning Glories are flowers not weeds!! I'm sure of that.
But Dandelions on the other hand and the worst kind of weeds. If you knew how many of those things I have pulled out of my lawn you would agree . They are pretty but beauty is deceptive!
Don't know about the Morning Glories. I do know that I agree with you on the children giving you a weed, and all of a sudden it is a most cherished flower. The boys are often handing me bouquets of those little daisies.
Morning Glorys are not weeds, they are wild flowers. Now I have dandelions in my lawn and don't like them there but if they grew in my flower bed I would be fine with that. I call flowering weeds - wild flowers. I guess it is all about perspective. But then again I am a flower lover.
I have had many a bouquet of dandelions from my two sons :-) All VERY precious to me!!!
Hi Deby,
Flowers to me! Love morning glories!
Have a wonderful week.
Blessings,
Sandy :)
Deby, I believe they sell morning glory seeds. I don't think they are weeds. But they do seem to just come up, probably spread by wind or birds.
I liked what you said about gifts from children. When I was very young I took my neighbor across the street some flowers and said "I bwought you some fwiwers, dez mosshe leeves." lol, My mother always used to tell that story.
I love morning glories! In fact I like anything that blooms a flower (weeds too!)
I love Morning Glories. They are wonderful to me. Bring back many memories. You are right any weed, flower, dead or alive is wonderful when given to you by a child. My children have given me many dead flowers in their young lives and I treasured all of them. Connie from Texas
For some reason when I read this verse this morning, I though of you and determined to come over and leave it with you.
"THEREFORE THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD SHALL RETURN, AND COME WITH SINGING UNTO ZION; AND EVERLASTING JOY SHALL BE UPON THEIR HEAD; THEY SHALL OBTAIN GLADNESS AND JOY; AND SORROW AND MOURNING SHALL FLEE AWAY." ISAIAH 51:11
LOVE this post...what a great reflection.
Indeed it is all in perspective..
Only problem.. is my allergies when my children/grandchildren brought in "weeds"...I put them in a vase in my kitchen window to enjoy until the sneezing became too much! ;)
one persons trash is another's persons treasure...
when my grand children give me Dandelions...they are beautiful flowers that deserve a vase on the dining room table....

I can't make morning glories grow very well, so in my opinion, they are not weeds, because we all know that weeds grow like wildfire! :o)
Deby, Oh my, at MY HOUSE, Morning Glories are WEEDS!! But that's because they take over my yard from the neighbor's house. He is a very elderly man, and they practically take over his home, then climb the fence and take over my sidewalk area.
Be careful too, because they are poisnonous! Wear gloves when removing them. They are native to Mexico and are known as "that which makes one dizzy"...they are a hallucinagen and a psychoactive plant. Shaman in Mexico used to consume it and fall into delirium to "hear" from their gods. Isn't that interesting? Just don't handle it to much with your bare hands! Just had to add this.
I do not know if they are weeds or flowers. I do know I love them and honysuckle also......Great post!!!
Oh, I loved this post! I don't have any morning glories though I do like them. I love honeysuckle (some have mentioned). I do get lots of dandelion bouquets which I like, but my husband is not very happy with that particular bloom right now - lol. In fact, I think he's about to become . . . a dandelion killer! ;o)
I wouldn't think morning glories as weeds either. My daughter loves giving me dandelions saying they are flowers lol.
That is so true, that it's all in your perspective. Great post!

BTW, morning glories are flowers to me too.
I can't imagine anyone considering Morning Glories weeds! It's all a matter of perspective; some "weeds" have the most beautiful flowers.
I've tried to grow Morning Glories to no avail, and I have a green thumb. I'm thinking they just don't grow well in our area. Cosmos doesn't either. Nor do Peonies.
I see weeds as helping the gardener toil so as to enjoy the fruit of his labor, when the true flowers spring up and show their faces. :o)
How lovely, Deby. So well done. I particularly like the words about dandelions. I always loved it when my children lovingly presented one to me.
I honestly don't know what's a weed and what's not. Some weeds are pretty!
Of course you know my husband would say weed...Now my girls would say Flower!!!
