Therefore to him that knoweth to do good,
and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
~~~~ooOoo~~~~
This morning at 4:30'ish
I was awake
and almost immediately
this verse was on my mind.
"Lord, are you trying to tell me something"
OUCH
"Do GOOD"
Some of this will be different for all of us
my *do good* list
will be different than yours as the Lord works on our hearts ,
in our sin areas as individuals.
~~~ooOoo~~~
I will not air the areas I need to heed this scripture on,
some of it would be embarrassing and I think at times
these things should be private, I don't want to flaunt my sin areas.
I can give you a simple example:
Sunday as I was at church I made a small
list of people I felt the Lord
was leading me to send cards to on Monday.
Well today it is Thursday and NO CARDS.
Maybe no big deal to you, but for me it has been sin.
~~~~ooOoo~~~~
For you
it could be and probably will be different.
Maybe, not considering what is important
to your husband as worthy.
Maybe it is spending too much time
on the phone (ouch) when your husband is home.
I am trying not to do that.
Maybe it is not speaking up for the Lord
or sharing HIM with others in your life.
Do they see Jesus in you or do you FIT IN?
I know this list is endless.
BUT
for me THIS MORNING
my list was immediate
and yet
I know I am a work in progress
and yet I DO NOT want to be in SIN
when really I KNOW better.
We are in this together.
A great verse to remember at all times.
Great post Deby,
That first one hits me...so often I think to do something...and it doesn't get done.
Thanks for the needed reminder.
Very good post, Deby ~
I saw that verse today in my emails, and it spoke to me too! Well, that is reminder number 2. I suppose the 3rd will come shortly. :)
Are you spying on me??? LOL! I needed the reminder today!
I hate when I know what the Holy Spirit is telling me to do and I quench him and say I will do it later.Usually later never comes..
Great Post,
Love Ya...
Good reminder. Makes me think of how desperately steeped in sin we are, and sometimes unaware. If left to ourselves, we would destroy ourselves. However, it is by God's grace that we can obtain victory and continue along the way chosen by Him for our life. May God never leave me to myself, and may I never harden my heart to His prodding.
Thanks Deby!
Cards of encouragement (and the people to whom they should go) have been in the forefront of my mind, but due to other things I put in front of them ~ went to the 'back burner' so to speak. Thank you for this timely post. We never know when someone is in need of encouragement, but the Lord does and we are to yield to His promptings and burdens laid on our hearts. I am convicted!
We are in the middle of a huge spring cleaning (our crawlspace and anything cluttering our home) and it feels good to go through it, but wow....a bit overwhelming. I'm hoping to get a lot done.
I appreciate your words of wisdom and sharing how the Lord is guiding you.
Blessings,
Katie
I think we could all do well to take heed! thanks for the post.
Excellent post!
HI Deby
Funny you just came to my blog because you came to my mind just moments before and I was about to come here! :) Isnt that funny!
I loved this post, and I agree with it.
I hope your doing well. Thanks always for your kind comments on my blog. I think you are a beautiful lady inside and out.
You have the same name as my Mom.
Love Candy
What an adorable picture!
I totally understand what you are saying. So often someone will pop into my head out-of-the-blue and I think...I should send, call, go see, etc. them and then the day has gone by and I didn't act on the thought. So many times that is God telling me to do something for that person and I have failed and that means that person has missed a blessing.
Boy, do I need to start acting on these thoughts!
Good post!
Great post Aunt Deby, It really got me thinking... Love ya!
Such a good verse Deby! I too, have those areas in my life that Lord prompts me in, and yet I don't always heed that prompting. A work in progress, indeed! : )
Wow, Deby, this is a great devotional post. It really spoke to my heart.
~Kristi
I have learned to heed the Lord's prompting to pray for someone as soon as I sense it, but I'm not as quick to obey promptings like you mentioned. Another good reminder.
Deby, On the radio today I heard something like this...satan condemns us of our sins and Jesus convicts us.
If we feel bogged down and no resolution and feel the situation is dire, then satan is the one pushing the sin to the surface. So as we work to remove areas of sin, we must make sure to cast the sin and turn away and NEVER to be reminded of it again.
I was thinking of this the whole time I read this post.
Yes we are together to fellowship and love and hold up eachother. I really admire that you do this so well.
You are truly loved by a humble housewife in New Mexico!
I need to send some of those cards and make some phone calls to some elderly in my area. I too should not talk on the phone in the small time my husband and I have together before he must go to bed at night...Mary
Hi Deby tanks for this post today I needed it!! God bless my friend!!~Wendy
Just came over from 50s Housewife and want to thank you for your gentle reminder. I so agree!
Excellent Post Deby...
too oft we put off and what if the LORD were to come back!
what's that saying..never put off what you can do TODAY!
reminds me also of a song I've been listening too and breaking my heart..
One day to late..one day to late...Jesus came and you been left ...because you came..
one day to late!
I can relate all too well. :o/
There's a scripture (can't recall where it is at the moment) that says (Jane paraphrased) "I do that which I don't want to do, and don't do that which I should"
I need to find that scripture and add it to your scripture today and memorize them. Yep.
Thank you.
Another timely and encouraging post. Great! I just noticed you are a fan of Grace Livingston Hill. Me, too! I have all of her books. Thanks for leaving a comment for me:)
~Elaine~
I needed this Deby. I do the same way too often with the list of names of folks missing from church service or names mentioned of those sick who could use some encouragement, then I get busy with my NORMAL stuff and the week passes by with not a card one sent out. I have many other areas to work on of course, but this post hit home. Thanks so much for sharing your heart. Sending lots of love and sunshine from FL.
Thanks for a great reminder!
This sort of thing happens to me from time to time as well and I know from experience that it is better to heed God's still small voice when I hear it than to put things off :o)
Blessings,
Dallas
This is a great verse and what you said is so true.
