What Have You Accomplished Today?by Dr. Paul Chappell
“This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:23–24
Each day we are either moving closer to God or further away from Him; there is no middle ground.
According to scientists, in one twenty-four hour period, if you're an adult of average weight, here is what you accomplish:
Your heart beats 103,689 times Your blood travels 168,000,000 miles You breathe 23,040 times You inhale 438 cubic feet of air You eat 3.25 pounds of food You drink 2.9 quarts of liquids You lose 7/8 pound of waste You speak 4,800 words, including some unnecessary ones You move 750 musclesYour nails grow .000046 inch Your hair grows .01714 inch You exercise 7,000,000 brain cellsWhat an amazing thought that all of this goes on inside each of us everyday and we don’t even realize it! We accomplish much throughout the day without even knowing it.
While we may accomplish things physically, what do we accomplish each day spiritually? Each day we are either moving closer to God or further away from Him. There is no plateau of spiritual growth.
Each day God gives us is a gift. Psalm 118:24 tells us,
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” The Psalmist realized that each day was an opportunity to serve God and determined to rejoice and live each day for Christ.
As Christians, God desires us to use each day to live for Him. As the saying goes,
“Only one life, twill soon be passed; only what’s done for Christ will last.” Only what you do for Christ today will last throughout eternity. We must each take account of our spiritual service and growth each day.
It would do us all well to take account of our days.
Each night ask yourself, ."What did I accomplish today? ""Did I spend time with God?"" Did I obey His commands?”Then, ask God to forgive you where you failed and seek His help in growing spiritually the next day. As we are daily reviewing our spiritual growth, we will become more accountable to living for Him each day.
