getting back in focus

I am finding myself having to turn the news off.
All this doom and gloom, it is easy to get my eyes on situations
and not on the Lord. To much news seems to affect
my prayer life, my thought life and just ME.
What about you?
Need to switch channels to more time in God's WORD
more time in PRAYER...the list is endless.

I haven't watched the T.V. news since the election. I'd rather tune in to the Good News instead. :)

I couldn't agree with ya more, sweetpea!! It's just too depressing to listen to radio any more so I just don't even bother to turn it on. My home is a quiet place anyway since we never watch any television anyway. It's the way I like it: calm, relaxing, serene and beautiful.
Smooches,
Connie

I feel the same Deby.
I hope all is going well and little by little you are making progress feeling at home in your new place.

I agree with you completely. Some time ago I began to invest in praise and worship music CDs which I play all the time and carry in my car. It is a wonderful encourager and fills my heart and mind with what is important to Him.
Thanks Deb for the reminder.

Oh yes, I've made the same decision. What's done is done and me watching and dwelling on the negative won't change a thing. But praying more might!

Blessings and Hugs,

Deby,

What a beautiful illustration.

Yes, I'm with you. I just can't stomach the jubilant celebration of a moral-less society that seems to be on every station.

You're right - I need to make my focus on Him and not on the gleeful celebration of decline.

You know, sheep will follow each other over a cliff to their deaths. It is why we need a Shepherd.

I need to do the same, Deby. The news just upsets me. And I still look at too much on the internet. I need to keep my eyes on Jesus.

That's the reason we turned off our telly years ago. My husband does enjoy staying informed (cough) and then he relays the "you need to know this" items.
This week I've had to be careful about the blogs I've read. I read and the words swirl around my head. Then I begin to take my eyes off Jesus (who is in the boat) and focus on the storm...I fret and worry and then hear as He says, "Oh ye of little faith." I hang my head in shame..."tis true Lord, tis true, forgive."

Have a blessed weekend. Jimandi

I'm with you Deby. After being saturated with all this "Stuff" this week, I felt as though I had grown distant from the Lord. It is definitely time to turn off the news and turn to Him.

I agree with you. I do not turn the news on because it tends to upset me and take my focus off of where it needs to be. I love your blog!

I only watch the news at eleven in the morning for the weather and local happenings. Other than that, no thank you very much.

I told Sarah that I'm not going to listen to the news for at least the next four years. We've enough to deal with without worrying about what's happening in the rest of the world. When our eyes are on the Lord, everything else falls into place, especially our perspectives.

We were feeling the same way...about the change of presidency...watching too much news and finding ourselves so disappointed and all. And this isnt even our country LOL
The FOX channel is not a part of our regular tv programming so we were stuck with CNN. But the night before last, my husband found out that we can get FOX News, we just had to pay a couple dollars extra per month. But boy, are we ever glad to have it...finally a news show that is not biased like CNN! So its easier for us now than it was before. Because at least Fox is not letting the new president off the hook like everyone else seems to be doing LOL
Plus, we missed Glen Becks show when he was taken off CNN. Its fun to watch him now on Fox.

But anyway, yeah I know what you mean..sometimes we have to break from tv...

Hugs!

Thank you for that! It was such a blessing! It reminded me to keep my eyes on Jesus--and on Him alone!

I haven't watched the news since November. It just stirred up too many negative feelings. I love the illustration you posted. Thank you!

Amen! And it's not just the news that can do that :o)

I can get my eyes on *all sorts of legitimate things* that can take my eyes and focus off the Lord Jesus Christ!

I love thet verse from that grand old hymn that you shared ~
"On Christ the Solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand!"

Blessings to you!
