Question on Prayer.....added more to this post

allposters.com
**UPDATE on this question at the end of this post**
I have a serious question...that I would love comments on....
.either here or your blog...
Please let me know IF you put the answer
or your thoughts on your blog.

What is a prayer warrior?.....
How do you know IF a person is
what is called a prayer warrior....
give me your thoughts on prayer.
Is this a spiritual gift. I know the Bible says to:
PRAY WITHOUT CEASING
Would love to know what some of
you know about this subject
Deby
**I have loved, as many of you have ,all the answers....
not a bad comment in the bunch...and put all together a total picture of sorts, would
you agree. You may wonder why.
I asked the question on prayer...well my friend Jamie,
kind of nailed it for me...in that she knows about fibromyalgia
and the frustration of it and lately I have been really hurting (no sympathy please)
and the fatigue has been horrible.....so I have been thinking Lord.."what can I do for you
what is the use ? "......with so many bad days I am pretty undependable*....it is hard
to make any committments and I nap ....yadda yadda yadda.....I ,at times, have had
my own pity party...sorry no one else invited....then the thought came to me
on prayer...and on Sunday night my pastor preached on Thankfulness and prayer
I would just like to develope that part of my daily walk and maybe this useless feeling
will leave...and last night I thanked the Lord for my fibro.....I am trusting the Lord that
since HE has allowed me to have it..then HE has a purpose for it
hence the question....and I need to do some more study on it
ie: a WORD study and also the books that you all have recommended.
Thank you everyone
Deby

Just my version of a prayer warrior..
some one who puts on the "armor of God" and "prays without ceasing" in order to conquer evil & help others...
Anyone can be a prayer warrior, the faith we have in our Lord makes us that..

You are dear!!! Deena
who's husband doesn't know about the pink blog..but the rest of the family does!!

My brother is a missionary in Malawi, Africa, and he preached an amazing message on prayer while he was recently on furlough. This is one of few that is in English on his website... it's well worth listening to, and there's some examples in the message about prayer warriors. The link is:
http://biblebaptistmalawi.com/preachteach.htm
and the name of the message is "An Invitation to Pray". I KNOW you will enjoy!

Deby, My suggestion is to read "Andres Murray on Prayer". I got this book about 10 years ago and have read it over and over. It is one of those books that has changed my life. I know you can get it on Amazon. It is a large book and actually contains several books within it.

I feel that at times we are a prayer warrior for a particular person or a particular need...

to be a true prayer warrior you have to have a compassion for what and who you are praying for...(for instance a dear friend of my recently went through a very difficult time... she would call me every morning to tell me what she was going through that day... and I would keep her lifted up all day with the difficulties I knew she was facing on that day...)
we should also have a compassion for anything else for which we are asking intersession...

Oh good question! I remember as a new Christian this was a tough one. First off, how can one pray without ceasing? Then I came to understand that one should be in the attitude of prayer at all times.

But I heard a great story about being a prayer warrior. A new pastor was nervous about being in the pulpit, and was thankful for the older woman that sat in the front pew. She had sat there for years and he decided that she would be his focus if he got nervous.

Well, whenever he would look at her she was mumbling. So after a few weeks of this he decided to ask her if everything was alright? When he asked her, she said of course pastor, I am praying the whole service so that you will say what the Lord needs you to say. To me that is a prayer warrior!

I have a couple of friends whom I consider "prayer warriors." They cover everything in prayer! If I mention a concern, they'll say "well, let's lift it up right now." They pray without ceasing. If they hear of a need, they immediately stop and pray.

What a thought provoking post my dear! I agree with sweetanne on putting on the whole armour of God and praying without ceasing. It isn't so hard to be a prayer warrior. Just have "faith" which is the key to Heaven and use "prayer" to unlock the door and amazing things can happen. If you feel great passion when you pray and you know and believe prayer will be answered I think that makes you a prayer warrior!

Deby,

What an interesting question! I look forward to reading the answers everyone gives.

I have two favorite books on prayer....One is called 'Praying Through The Bible'. I don't think it's available anymore but basically they take Scripture and personalize it as a prayer.

The second is 'Prayer' by E.M. Bounds. He prayed for 3-4 hours a day!

I also wanted to stop by and wish you and your husband a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Blessings,
~Mrs.B

A very good question, Deby. To ME, it means being willing to pray constantly. Truthfully, I very seldom sit quietly in prayer, but I do pray ALL DAY LONG. And often into the night. There are times that I feel like I can't sleep, and rather than gettingup and finding something to do, I lay there, often for hours, and pray.

Prayer by E.M. Bounds is a great book on prayer. The prayer warriors that I have met are all very humble people who would not consider themselves to be special in any way. Prayer is almost a constant, an attitude at all times.

My opinion on Prayer is... besides being a Prayer Warrior, is to be a Listener...What I mean by that is we Pray for an answer then allot of times as Christians we Quench the Holy Spirit(that still small voice)because its not the answer we want..I really feel as Christians the two go hand in hand, why brother praying if were not willing to heed Gods answer. I think its real important to accept God will and not ours. That is why I end ever Prayer with "Not my will but Thine will" Hope this makes sense...Great topic sis...

Deby, I believe a prayer warrior is one who prays fervently spending time with God, interceding for the needs of others, in faith. And we are told to put on the whole armour of God.

you got lots of good comments!

i've read that book by andrew murray (good thoughts in it) ...

and i also think it is putting on the " whole armour " and then doing battle with satan, but on our knees ...

Very interesting post. I agree with everyone's words on the topic. What I will add is I think a Prayer Warrior is also someone who prays for whomever needs prayer (whether they ask to be prayed for or not) at any given time. I learned that from my mom because she prays for people she knows and people she doesn't know. For example if she is watching the news and if someone is going through a hardship she will pray for them right then and there.

Hi Deby,
To me it is someone who prays without ceasing. My dear mother helen was a real prayer warrior. She had her list and for 3 hours everyday she prayed for her list. It was amazing the answers she recieved. I always knew i could count on her to pray for me and my request.

A prayer warrior is one who doesn't just say, "Oh I'll pray about that!" but one who really does it! Many I know stop and pray with you the very minute you mention a request to them. There first response isn't,"Oh how are you dealing?' But more like "Here, let's take a moment and bring this before the Lord."

A true prayer warrior doesn't need to tell anyone they are one. Your spirit will bear witness with theirs. You will also see, in a true prayer warrior, a positive person, an uplifted person, for you see-they spend so much time with the Father, they have a natural intimacy with Him that many of us crave. They won't be complainers either! They take all their "complaints" to the only source who can fix them - God!

A good example of a prayer warrior is mentioned in Colossians 4:12,13 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.

And I totally agree with your other commentors who mention the putting on of the armour of God. Wonderful!

For me, prayer means so many things, it is a time of worship, a time of contemplation of God's wonder and great mercies, a time to ask for blessings/healing/favour ...all must be requested in the will of our Father in Heaven because His ways are so much higher than ours. But praise God that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we don't know what we should ask for. I try to pray for everything to be to the glory of Jesus Christ.

I really need to spend more time in prayer!

I agree with Mrs. E. Some other great books/author to look into are by Dutch Sheets. He has several different books on prayer.

Hope that helps you out some. :)

To me prayer is a privilege as well as a duty. To be able to pray at anytime we must have all sins confessed and have our hearts in in such a way that sin does not block our prayers from God's ears. I believe that to me the main thing in prayer is to pray in God's will then we have assurance that He will answer us. We have to pray for things we know that God would want. These things to be are being a "Prayer Warrior." One who is always ready and willing to pray at anytime and anyplace in the will of God. connie from Texas

A prayer warrior to me is one who will pray at any point in the day as God leads them to and will not let anything stand in the way of that. They are faithful in praying fervently for the needs of others. They are willing to pray continually for burdens that others are bearing. They love to pray and make it a major part of their Christian life. I don't see it as a spiritual gift...but a privilege and responsibility of each and every Christian. Unfortunately...there aren't too many prayer warriors who will take the time to earnestly pray for anything at any given moment that the Lord prompts them too and not be so quick to make it a short or quick prayer.

J-ME said...

Deby, you have received some great answers and suggestions. I really like what Julie wrote. We are to pray for others, but some seem to have more of a burden for prayer or remember to pray more often tahn others. I guess the key word would be faithfulness. I also think of the older men and women who may not be able to serve the Lord as younger folks can, but they can pray, and do. I believe some of our gretest prayer warriors are those who are through with raising children, through with their careers, those who may have physical ailments and who may even be shut-in. We have an older couple in our church whom I think of as prayer warriors. They are so faithful in prayer for others and for the persecuted church.

Oh Deby, what a response. They are all great answers as you said.

I'm sorry you're having a rough time of it right now. It was this time last year when I went through a very low spot with my RA too. I've been doing very well with my new medication regime and walking but the past few days have been spiking with more pain. Could it simply be something about this time of year? I'm not nearly in as much pain as I was this time last year, but I'm not doing as well as I was doing last month either. Did all that make sense? Well, one thing for sure, as I hurt, I'll remember to pray for you! hehe Love you and your transparancy here!

Hi Deby, thank you for visiting my blog. You know, it's great that you thank the Lord for your illness. I am handicap, was paralyzed for a long time and now I can walk again but I don't have good balance,I limp, I can't control my legs very well or feelings (cold/hot, pain), I lost and only gained little control of my organs, and also suffer from fatigue constantly, to the point of feeling guilty because I don't want my husband to think that I'm just being lazy, but I just can't move... but you know, it's the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. The Lord shows His strength in our weaknesses, so thank God for giving us weaknesses so we can be in awe of all the things that He is able to do through us... mind you, I never see if I am doing any good or not, but I trust and believe that the Lord is working through me as I open my self to His service, and I DO see what He does in my life each day... and how ungrateful I am. The suffering here on earth will only be for a little while and nothing compared to what He has for us. It is good news that we have His strength to lean on when we just can't go on... because see, if we could go on just by ourselves, I bet we probably wouldn't come to Him as often as we must right now... right? I know that's me, and that's why I will just keep limping towards Him my light my all. God bless you, I will remember you in my prayers today

Deby, I have some physical problems too, one of which is "incurable" - the asthma. But God is my hope and with Him all things are possible. I'm sure you have read my post on healing. Here is a verse I thought of for you.:o) 3Jo 1:2 - Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
