Forgotten Worth--Shown Tell Friday

I am participating in Kelli's Show and Tell Friday.
Please go on over and see the other wonderful
things that people have on their blogs.

I found this Counted Cross-stitch at a Goodwill. I bought it
not because I thought it the most stylish, wonderful thing I
had ever seen...but because of what it represents. To me it
shows many hours of loving handwork. I used to do some basic
cross-stitch, but I never got to this level of detail. I would be overwhlemed.
On the back it says done by Dawn (will leave off the last name) 1996
..and here it was at Goodwill, I just could not leave it there.
I don't know IF it was a gift or her own possession, nonetheless, it was Forgotten
....and I rescued it for .99.......that is less than $1.00.......How could I leave it?
Where will it go in my home ?
Probably hang in my pink, "lovely room "as my husband calls it
....it is now NOT FORGOTTEN.

It's beautiful! I'm sure it's happy to be in a home where it will be appreciated. It's so sad when such lovely pieces of needlework are tossed aside--but wonderful when they are rescued!

Thank you for rescuing this treasure. As a fellow cross-stitcher I can say that a 99 cent Goodwill fate is no place for such a labor of love. I'm sure Dawn would be grateful!

What a heartbreaker it would be for "Dawn" to know that her wonderful work was discarded to Goodwill! But how heartwarming for you to rescue it and give it a home.

The irony is that these types of things, which may be out of style for a season, will eventually become quite rare and valuable.. especially one created with the level of skill this obviously was! Someday this work of art may be worth a mint!

How sweet you "adeopted" it. I am like you, Deby. When I see these things that have so much work in them it makes me sad that who ever ended up with them did not treasure them.

I am so glad you rescued it. As a cross stitcher and one who loves homemade gifts and such I find it sad when I see such a lovely work cast aside, wether it be for a gift or for her own pleasure. I made a Proverbs 31 samper for my friend a couple years ago, it was detailed and I enjoyed making it. So good job in rescuing it and now I want to take a trip to my Goodwill to see what I can rescue.
God bless,
Sarah

I've visited before but I think this is my first comment. :)

As someone who has done a little cross-stitch and then switched to crochet because I wasn't patient enough for that much small detail... I can appreciate what a valuable piece it is. Not to mention lovely! :)

Yay for rescuing it!

Oh, my! I can't imagine anyone would give this away! It would be so interesting to know the story behind it. It is absolutely gorgeous!

I cannot believe someone got rid of that, Deby. No way. But I'm **ever** so glad you can enjoy the hours this type of handiwork produced. It's beautiful.

I'm glad you rescued it and appreciate it. It is shameful how some don't value handmade items.

What a nice project, so much work - labor of love rather. I'm so glad you brought it home with you! It's a little sad to think it was no longer wanted where it was. Maybe there was a nicer story than that though!

Ok, this is *very* strange. My husband's aunt is named Dawn, and I vaugly remember my husband's grandmother having something like that. I can't remember if my husband's aunt cross stiches, but I am wondering....

Did Dawn's last name start with a G by chance?

I think it is very pretty too, even if it wasn't made by my husband's aunt. :)

Thank you for rescuing it and for sharing it!

It is a very beautiful cross stitch. I did one and it was called Prov. 31 and looked very much the same. It took me a long long time to do it because of all the detail.

Your new home cross-stitch is simply beautiful! I am so glad you rescued it and will treasure it. Sometimes I buy bits and pieces of embroidery and linens as well --- simply to rescue them (and because I love old linens!). Thank you for sharing with us!

Hi there! I found your blog through a comment you left over at Lallee's - isn't the internet grand! LOVE it here at your place! I was looking around your lovely site and saw this cross-stitch treasure and I wanted to say that I echo your sentiments 100%. I have a fairly sizeable collection of embroidered pieces that I've similarly saved from garage sales and thrift stores and I SO appreciate and honor the effort and patience and skill of the crafter behind the piece. You did REAL good with this save - I can't believe it was .99 - wow!! Thanks for saving it and sharing it. I doubt the person that stitched it would have ever imagined it's journey or its impact... Lord only knows who our creative endeavors are meant to bless, or where they may end up - but He does!! I just love that about the Lord!! :o)

Glad to have found you - I've bookmarked you and will be back!!

Blessings,
