Day 5---Giveaway

Day 5....all three will go to ONE person.
Just recently I had finally found a copy of Emilie Barne's book: If Teacups Could Talk
Well a few days later, I found this copy at a favorite Thrift Store...of course, I knew it had to go on this giveaway. The other book Apples of Gold (love that name !!!) holds all kinds of little quotes and such
some better than other, but so nice to sit and browse through and ideas for quotes on your blog or whatever.
The magazine is a favorite, thought you would enjoy it as well.
Day 5 question is this:
The Olympics Start today, will you watch them ? What are your favorite events?
My answer:
Yes, I plan to watch the Opening ceremonies but most likely will fall asleep. I like gymnastics the best.
I don't like the fact that the clothing that the competitors wear has gotten so skimpy !!!!
I actually prefer the WINTER Olympics
Remember....all comments after midnight tonight will NOT count...we are talking pacfic time.
I will post winners Saturday. I will need your email plus snail mail so I can mail next week.
IF you have been a visiter to my blog, please take a minute and read my testimony here

No, I won't be watching the Olympics. I've watched them in the past though and I also liked gymnastics the best.

Hmmm... I might just look around for the Olympics after all. It would be the only time I'd get to hear them in Hebrew.

We don't have tv, so I will only see what is online, and probably won't spend much time watching there either. I don't really have a favorite...maybe gymnastics, but I agree about the clothing.
We have a missionary in China who is hoping to do some witnessing during the olympics. Please pray for his and his family's safety, as well as other christians in china.

I'm not that big of a sports fan, but my husband usually likes to watch (fall asleep in front of) at least parts of the Olympics. The outrageous extravagance of the opening ceremony always leaves me shaking my head. Gymnastics is my favorite as well (ditto about the clothes). I think there's one other one I like, but I can't think of what it is.... I really like it a lot, huh...

Even if I didn't win your giveaway..those look like great books..remember I go on recommendations!!!

I don't own a t.v. either and would probably only view something if it was significant to the news.
Like..perhaps an article about someone TRYING to witness during that time! I'll be praying for the Missionaries! amen...

I suppose of any time in the Olympics I'd be of interest it would be in the Winter time.

Deby,

Those books in today's give-away look just like something I'd love to have :o)

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Deby, I probably won't be watching any of the Olympics. I favor the gymnastics also. But I enjoy the swimming too. The Olympics lost its appeal to me when ABC stopped covering it, no station has done as good of a job. It's been so long since I've followed them that ABC might even be the major station to cover them now, I just don't know.

Of course I will be watching them!!!! I LOVE the Olympics!!! My favorite events are all of the swimming events. I swam all four years in high school and I just have a love for the water. I will watch all of them but swim by far is my most favorite!

We enjoy the Olympics. I doubt we'll watch much this weekend, but probably will in the evenings next week. My favorite would probably be gymnastics. Just another year and a half till the winter Olympics come to Vancouver! It's exciting to think of the whole world focused on our city, but at the same time, I dread all the extra traffic, security threats and stuff that will come with the whole world.

I do plan on watching the Olympics, I like the gymnastics events the best. Although the swimming looks like it will be pretty competetive as well. I'll only be able to watch here and there since I"ll be working, but I make sure to keep up on the medal count online. GO USA!

Thanks for offering the giveaway!

I probably won't be watching as it just doesn't interest me much. I would really like to win this giveaway. I have heard about the Emilie Barnes book on several blogs. I don't have any of her books yet.

I remembered being taught that the ancient Olympic participants did not wear any clothing. I found this on Wikipedia (which has nothing to do with why I don't usually watch the Olympics):

"...After Emperor Theodosius I proclaimed Christianity the religion of the Empire in AD 393 and banned pagan rites, the Olympic Games were outlawed as a pagan festival. [11] The Olympics were not seen again until their rebirth 1,500 years later.

During the ancient times normally only young men could participate.[10] The sportsmen usually competed nude. This was due in part to the weather and also because the festival was meant to be a celebration of the achievements of the human body."

We love the Olympics! I'm with you about the outfits, though. I like gymnastics, and diving in the summer. In the winter I enjoy skating, and curling along with skiing!

Yes, we will watch some of the Olympics. I feel it is a good thing for the children to watch, with mom or dad sitting close by to moderate. It teaches them something of the other countries and they learn to take interest in them. We like gymnastics and especially track. My husband has always been a long distance runner.

Love the olympics opening ceremonies and by far gymnastics is the best. I loved when Carly Patterson was competing because I used to attend church with her when she was little and her dad and I even sang together a couple of times. I would love the books!

Dear Deby,

No, I would not be watching them...we don't have cable or tv hook-up :)

The books look like they could be a terrific read.

I forgot to mention that my favorite event is ice skating.

Deby, I would love to have those books.
I will probably watch a little of the olympics. I like most of the sports. But I am not really thrilled about it. And it sounds kind of dangerous over there right now. Our prayers would help, I'm sure.

And I agree with Dallas, those look like really good books! (o:

I will be watching some of the Olympics here and there. Opening ceremonies are on now, but we tend to leave it on while doing other things. Pop in to look at this or that. My daughter is a big Olympics fan, tho. I'm a bit worried about the commercials for her so I'm keeping an eye on that. I agree with you about the clothing, especially gymnastics. Some of the young ladies have parts showing which I'd rather not see and wouldn't want my son to see if I had one. My husband has little interest in it. He likes football, baseball, etc. better

I REALLY would like to have those prizes!

Maxine said...

Ooops. I forgot to say my favorite events. It's track, especially the women.

Saija said...

we taped the ceremonies, they were on in the wee hours ... then we fast forwarded alot of it ... it was good, but oh so LLLLOOOONNNGGGGGG!!!!

but we cheered canada, finland, usa ...

i think we'll continue to tape overnight coverage, then we can fast forward the things we don't like ...

blessings on ya!

I will be watching and am watching the opening ceremonies as I type...There is allot about China that is so sad...They really are so lost. Makes me want to pray more for those there trying to spread the Gosple. Deb don't include me in the drawing for these books. Only because I see that there are many here who really want them. Love Ya Sis!!! This has been fun...Hope I win some of the other stuff.

The Opening Ceremonies have just begun-yes, we always watch the Olympics. We don't follow them closely-we don't watch every event-but we really like the gymnastics and second would be swimming. Third is track and field.
Let the games begin!

Well, I ended up watching the opening ceremonies and they were very impressive. I did seeing the countries different outfits. I just don't understand why the Americans were wearing berets?!?! Anyways, I'll probably catch a Water Polo game or two and the swimming.

Kristi said...

The winter olympics are my favorite, but we'll still watch the summer games. Probably the swimming and gymnastics and whatever Bruce wants to watch. I am kind of interested to see how that girl with one leg does in the swimming competitions.
