Sitemeter and security

EVIL,vile bloggers. They are out there. They visit your blogs they visit mine.
Sometimes they will leave horrible demonic, gross and just unkind comments.
I moderate for that reason. So far I have only had a few.
~~~BUT~~~
A wonderful Christian Blogger had her blog replicated, and then took
information off her blogroll and
sent MANY of US not so nice comments, SOME VILE.
So in saying this I am enclosing a link to Blog security here. Sent to me from a friend.
Each of us has to pray and assess your blog with the Lord and your spouse.
I would say:
"Be Careful"
To know more on this situation please vist Cherish the Home.
She writes better on the situation than I did.
NOW, in saying all of this, I would like to post why I continue to keep my
The above incidence is why. It could enable someone to find the culprit IF need ever be.
Some, do not like when you have sitemeter.
They feel like you should not know when they are on you blog.
What I have discovered is this:
1. RARELY do I even visit my sitemeter to see who is on, it is not automatic.
2. When I GOT the ghastly comment I could trace it to the source,
if it would have been worse , the police would have been called.
3..It is my security, the best I can do right now.
4. If you think I am spying on you because of my sitemeter, I am sorry that is not the case. At first it was fun to see where all my posts were coming from, who was on my blog, etc...
now frankly I don't have the time, it is for SECURITY.
There are risks in all areas of life. Right now with the consent and discussion of my husband I am keeping my blog .There might be some minor changes, it will unfold as I am lead.
I love this way of sharing and learning and keeping in touch with loved ones.
and can I say Pray for your blog, pray for other Christians that blog,
and BE CAREFUL.
Always moderate your comments as a starting point.
Get sitemeter, it is FREE.
Deby, I think I might add a site meter to my own blog. I'm considering it. Thank you very much for this information.
That is awful Deby. I have been fortunate as to have had only one nasty comment.
Can you shoot me an email and walk me through the process of adding a site meter. I went to the address you provided but was confused. I am hoping you can help me. I switched the comment security to moderated.
As I have literally JUST STARTED, these words are truly worth more than gold. I have also done a 'little' post about the tragic events! I'm off to get my free site meter. Bless you for sharing this!!
Wow...I can't believe that some people would get offended that you have a sitemeter! How silly is that? It's your blog, you have a right to know who's on there, right? If they don't like it, they can stop viewing the blog, right? Is that mean? Sorry if it is. So silly that people would think they're being "spyed" upon while viewing your blog...so it's that they want to be able to "spy" on your blog without you knowing...now who should be offended? So silly. I was kind of amazed at reading your post that people would take offense and that you would even need to explain yourself for having a site meter. I have had a meter for a long time and I monitor it regularly. NO ONE should find this offensive, if they did, I would question why. I always love the saying, "People who have nothing to hide, hide nothing."
If you can't publish/post my comment because it may be harsh, I understand, I just wanted to speak up. :) Thanks Deby.
Sorry to hear you've had this unfortunate incident. Fortunately I've never had a bad comment. I have one that questions my faith quite often but that doesn't bother me because it gives me the opportunity to witness to him.
I've had my sitemeter since May, 2007 and never had anyone object to it. I am shocked about that part of your post. It is a little alarming to me that a "reader" and "blog friend" would take offense about that.
In my opinion God is, and must be, our ultimate protection.
I was surprised about this too. I am making some small changes and I've had site meter for quite a while and no one has ever said a thing about it. I was just curious how people found my blog.
Deby I have so many questions about the sitemeters. I have REALLY thought about it, but haven't made the move yet. I think I would like to have one that is private, for only me to see. Do they offer those?
I hope that you have a great day!
Deby, thank you for this info. I signed up for site meter some time ago but never had it properly installed. I just finished doing that and it is running. Sad that it has to be this way :-(
I have the sitemeter too but rarely remember to check it.
I haven't had any ugly comments except for a couple last May afer my dad's open heart surgery. Someone said he deserved the heart attack as it looked as if he was a drunkard!! I had posted a couple of photos of dad on my blog. There were a few long comments with scriptures all about how drinking alcohol is an abomination, blah blah. My dad hasn't touched a drop of alcohol since he accepted Christ as His personal Lord and Savior over 40 years ago! How hurtful those comments about him were, especially during that sensitive time of surgery and heart failure, but I was able to remove the comments thankfully. Can you imagine how shallow and empty the lives of these foul commentors are?
