These are two Tea Towels I recently did
I did them identical (almost) except using a different stitch
The one on the left is done in a STEM stitch, the one on the
right is done with a BACKSTITCH. Not sure which I prefer
I just wanted to see how different they would look. I still need to sew
some lace on. I am loving stitching. I was taught by my mom in 4th
grade.
Can you tell the difference in stitches? Do you have a preference?
Deby

I prefer the stem stitch, but they are both pretty. Nice work!
They're both beautiful.. well done! I prefer the Stem Stitch. I think it gives a more 'complete' line and looks more professional.
so cute! the one on the left..I think, shows off deeper. Both are great!
I cant tell the difference but I think they are beautiful!!!

candy :)
Those are gorgeous!!! What a wonderful job you did. I like the stem stitch the best, looks darker, more pronounced.
BRAVO!
Hi Deby, you do beautiful work. I like the one on the left (stem stitch). It has a smoother look but they are both pretty.
Hello dear Deby,
I love your beautiful redwork tea towels!!! You stitch so pretty. I usually use a back stitch, but I think the stem stitch is lovely and has a bit more of a flow to it. Both, look lovely though.
It is wonderful that your Mom taught you how to embroidery. I think we need to revive the art and encourage others to try their hand at it, as it is so relaxing and enjoyable. You can stitch things for your home or for gifts.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful handwork.
Have a lovely week!
The Lord bless you!
Paula
They both look great! But I like the stem stitch. :)
Wow, great job, they're really pretty! (o:
Did you do them on your new machine? I LOVE your new blog header, it is my favorite one yet.
I love your stitchery! Redwork is one of my favorites and these being teapots and teacups, make them all the better!
Lovely!
Dear Deby,
Your tea towels are beautiful!! I really like the redwork. I think the stem stitch does seem a little more bold ~ however, both stitches are so lovely! Thank you for sharing these for inspiration!
Have a blessed day,
Sharon
Those are so pretty! I love them both!
They are both so pretty! I just love redwork.
Totally beautiful --- both of them! I love red work. It creates a stunning, yet cozy effect. I prefer the stem stitch, but they are both very nice. Love that pattern too.

I think I like the one on the left better. Somehow it seems to have more depth. Both are beautiful, however! I am really beginning to love redwork.
I really cannot tell the difference. I think they are both gorgeous! You did an excellent job!

I love the backstitch the best and these are absoulutely adorable and your work is beautiful! Deby, would you feel comfortable sharing your pattern source? I know someone who would love these as a gift.
Do these bring back memories. Aye and they are lovely!
I can't tell the difference but I can tell you they are super super cute!!! I love red!!! My kitchen is red I just love the way the color makes me feel!
I like the one on the left, simply because it looks brighter. They are both beautiful.

Deby, your work is beautiful and I love the pattern. I keep saying I want to do a redwork piece but never seem to get around to it. I'm liking the stem stitch.

Deby, these are so pretty. I used to embroider when I was in high school, but haven't done any in many years!! I really can't see a difference - they both look great.
These are so beautiful, Deby. Needlework is a wonderful hobby and so useful. Thanks for sharing these lovely creations with us.
Such pretty work, so neat! I think I prefer the hem stitch, but it's really hard to see a difference on the computer.
Deby,
These are beautiful and I think I prefer the stem stitch, although they both look great.
Hi Deby, it was so nice to see your comments on my blog on this trying day. Thank you! Stem stitch vs. backstitch brings back a memory. I had to embroider a corner of a placemat when I was in school. I carefully backstitched it and was pleased with the result. My teacher was not. She turned it over and said *that* was more like what it should look like. The reverse of backstitch looks very much like stem stitch. I was crushed. But, my mother has that placemat to this day. And, I can't decide which stitch I like better. Stem stitch requires a little more thought to get around angles and has more depth but backstitch looks like a delicate tracing, an effect which I also like.
You probably won't get back to read my comments, so I'll answer your question about calorie counting here. It is still going. I am not into deprivation so my calorie limit is quite high. I don't eat as much as I'd like to, of course. ;o) I've counted calories off and on since my twenties so I don't find it difficult. If you're interested, let me know and I will put together a post of how I do it.
Lady Jane, that would be yellow Redwork ;-)
Swooning and oooning over those towels. They are beautiful!
Very pretty! I prefer the stem stitch ... it looks neater. But the backstitch has a nice "childlike" quality that would be so cute for designs of children and the like.
