ME and Contentment....again....

This may not be for any of you..BUT it sure was/is for me. I can sometimes...get my eyes off all that the Lord has given ME....and focus on what HE has given others..or allowed others to have. So I am passing this on.....thinking there might be someone else that can have a problem in this area....maybe not today...but...now and then.
I receive this devotional in my email everyday and truly it is a recommend:

Keeping Contentment
by Dr. Paul Chappell

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s.”
Exodus 20:17
One of the most exciting pieces of news in the electronics industry last year was the release of the Play Station 3. But even though marketers were anticipating a number of sales, they were not prepared for the great demand that came about after the release. Nationwide, short supplies of the PS3 and strong demand led to long lines of buyers, some waiting for days outside stores. Once the doors opened that Friday, they pushed and shoved their way to the shelves in several cities to get to the limited supply. Two people were arrested in Fresno, California, after a crowd trampled people in a parking lot, and in Connecticut, a man was shot while waiting in line.
We must admit that we live in a very materialistic society. People thrive on gaining the latest gadget or toy. While it is not wrong to have nice things, our Lord desires that we as His children would be content with what He has given us.
We must be careful with the passion to possess. We are certainly pushed with this in today’s society. Marketing researchers spend their lives developing slogans, music, and commercials to get us to buy things. But God tells us in Luke 12:15, “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” God desires that we keep Him first in our lives and be content.
We see in our verses today that God commands us to avoid discontentment. He desires that we would focus on Him and not the possessions we do or do not have. As we have seen over the past few days, we must thank God for all He has done for us! One way we can remain content is by being thankful for what we have. When we take time to realize all God has given us and thank Him for it, we will realize how greatly He has already blessed us! We must thank Him daily in order to remain content.
Not only should we thank Him daily, but we must also fix our hearts on Him. Many people in our society look to possessions to bring them joy and fulfillment, but when our hearts are fixed on God, He will fill our lives with joy! The things of this world do not bring true happiness but only temporary enjoyment. Psalm 57:7 says, “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.” God has always been concerned not only about outward behavior, but also with the heart. When our hearts are fixed on God, He will give us joy, and we will be content with what He has given us.
When we become discontent, we are really telling God that we deserve more than what He has given us. God has blessed us beyond what we ever deserve! He has given us salvation! We all deserve to spend eternity in Hell, yet He sent His only Son to die for us. When we put things in perspective, we will see that God has given us far more than we could ever ask! We must remember that, even though we may not have the latest gadget, we have God’s Son, and He is all we need in life.
Have you found yourself desiring things others have that you don’t? God has given each of us exactly what we need to fulfill His will for our lives. We must thank Him for what He has given us and fix our hearts on Him. Spend time with Christ now, and be content knowing that you are saved and on your way to Heaven!

Pet Peeve ....part 2

~~~Thank you ALL for your comments on this post~~~
I am challenged by all of your thoughts on this....
and encouraged that so many really do care about even these LITTLE things...
and also know that we all do have a tendency to pick up all kinds of slang etc..
that probably do not line up with God's WORD..
We are in the process and at different stages in our walk with the Lord
...and we are to walk in grace.
Thanks again for the great responses.
Phrase pet peeve
Maybe I am writing on something that does not bother most of you...it has been bothering me...
I have a problem with Christians that say "Good-luck" to anyone and ESPECIALLY each other.
Recently I was in a situation where this phrase was repeated to several Christians that were about to set out on some life changing experiences. They felt the Lord was leading them. It just twisted in my heart when the person sent them off ONE by one with the phrase"Good luck"....to me this reeks of superstition. Would it not just be so easy to say, I (we) will pray for you, or many other exhorting phrases that we use. I see them everyday in blogland. I do not believe personally, that this phrase should be any part of a Christians vocabulary. It seems, shallow and so worldly. I don't know if this is just me....what do you all think?..am I just being to picky? I personally do not want this said to me. Please I want God's guidance and God's will....not a life left up to "LUCK" ?
Eternity's Values
From God's Heart to Yours
by Roy Lessin
What a blessing it is to live
with eternity's values in view.
To have your eyes set on the goal
to have your heart fixed on the calling,
to have your will set on the prize.
To KNOW that the best is yet to be.
To plan with purpose.
To walk in hope.
To live with meaning.
~~~~~~~~~~
The Father's voice keeps you moving,
the coming of HIS kingdom keeps you marching,
and the glory of His presence
keeps you longing for home.
~~~~~~~~~~~
This really spoke to me this morning....
how I tend to forget ...."that this world is not my home,
I'm just a passin' through".......
how I can let things that will have no bearing on eternity
encompass my mind and my time...
.at times to a extreme.
My prayer for you and me is:
that WE....can keep first things first......to:
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of GOD
and HIS righteousness and all these things
shall be added unto you"
Matt. 6:33
Laundry and Venice
As many of you know...we lived almost 7 years of our military life in N. Italy. We lived in the Friuli Region..about 1 hour from Venice, by train.
We loved going there. For some reason....I just loved the old buildings...and geranium flower boxes.....and laundry stretched across out of the windows.
So today, I am so behind on laundry and as quaint as it looks ...
I am thankful for my servant girls( Emilie Barnes, calls our appliances this,in her books and seminars).....My WASHER and Dryer.
Worshipping HIM Alone
I get this devotional from Dr.Chappell everyday in my email. They are ALWAYS a blessing.
Hope this one speaks to someone out there
Worshipping Him Alone
by Dr. Paul Chappell
“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.”
Romans 1:21-23
New Ager, Shirley MacLaine once said, “I know that I exist, therefore I am. I know that the God source exists. Therefore it is. Since I am a part of the force, then I am that I am.” Many people in our society have placed themselves above God. This form of idolatry is causing many people to neglect God and focus their lives on other things.
God commands us to not worship any graven image. He desires to be the sole recipient of our praise and worship. While we may not ever consider worshipping an idol as the pagans of old, there are things that may come into our lives that take our worship and praise away from the Lord.
Many people replace God in their lives with self. For example, Dan serves his athletic body. He works out in a gym five days a week and has impeccable eating habits. He feels lonely and empty and eventually becomes bored and bitter. The false god of vanity fails him. While Dan may not think he is replacing God, his love of self and drive for self promotion has stolen his time and worship from God. We must be careful that we do not focus on ourselves or on our own self promotion so much that we fail to make time for God.
Also, some people worship things more than they worship God. Janice is very proud of her home. She spends hours each day cleaning, vacuuming, and dusting. It makes her feel good when visitors comment on what a beautiful home she has. But her children resent her compulsive cleanliness. She spends far more time working on her home than she does on Bible study, prayer, and family time. Janice has placed her home above her God.
Our world is a materialistic society that focuses on gaining possessions. Marketing is an enormous industry that seeks to promote goods as the source of happiness. But God commands us not to place the goods we own above Him in our lives. He has given us everything we have and He alone has the power to bless us. We must make sure that we worship God and praise Him more than we worship our possessions.
It is also sometimes easy to place other people above God in our lives. Debbie’s family means everything to her. Her son and young daughter play sports, take music lessons and attend a private school. Debbie spends every waking moment of every day caring for the kids. She seldom has time for her husband. He feels neglected. If he feels neglected, how does God feel? She lives through her children. They are like false gods in her life. Although family is important and God desires for us to nurture the hearts of our children, we must make sure that we are not placing them above our Lord. We must spend more time worshipping God than worshipping other people in our lives.
Who or what do you worship most in your life? God desires that He would be the number one object of the worship and praise in your life. He deserves it! Think about this past week. Did you spend time with God, or were you too busy with other things? Make sure nothing is becoming an idol in your life by taking your worship and praise from God. Spend time with God now, and worship Him for all He has done for you!
Which book are you?
This was a fun and fast one..to do
You're Anne of Green Gables!
by L.M. Montgomery
Bright, chipper, vivid, but with the emotional fortitude of cottage
cheese, you make quite an impression on everyone you meet. You're impulsive, rash,
honest, and probably don't have a great relationship with your parents. People hurt
your feelings constantly, but your brazen honestly doesn't exactly treat others with
kid gloves. Ultimately, though, you win the hearts and minds of everyone that matters.
You spell your name with an E and you want everyone to know about it.
I am sorry for all of you the browse my blog that I have been pretty silent...
I have a sister visiting from New York State...so I was out of town spending some*sisters time* last week....sure had alot of laughs.....you know how sisters are......
This week my husband is off and his vacation is being spent working on our home to try to get most of the remodeling done......
Also....with MUCH prayer, I have decided to give up a hobby I have done for years, Rubber Stamping....I am going to sell 99% of all that I have...which is a ton.....and turn my stamping room into a guest/sewing room......so I am slowly taking a inventory of it all, to probably start ebaying soon. I know I will be taking a loss, but like I told my husband when you drive a car off a car lot,it already has depreciated.
Also....some dental work coming up...aaaaARGH......I am totally dental PHOBIC.
Sooooooo....In saying all this...my computer time will be a bit hard to find. Things will return to normal soon, if there is such a thing....and I will try to pop into blogs on coffee breaks and down time...and who knows......maybe even post a blog here and there.
ONE Hymn
This is something that has happened recently that I have found very interesting. I don't know IF you will, or it is something the Lord is just trying to tell me.
Last Tuesday on my Blog, I posted the words to "TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS", the song had been playing in my mind that day. Then Friday, Sharon........posted a comment on MRS. B's Blog about keeping your eyes on the Lord. Saturday, MRS. B was lead, by Sharon's post to post"TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS".......so I was thinking..there is NO COINCIDENCE with the Lord.....
WELL........last night as our visiting Evangelist (Bro. Bill Bramlett) was ending his sermon...HE sang the first few lines of "TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS"
I couldn't believe it and thought that I would share it with you all in blogland. Isn't that the beauty of a good old fashioned HYMN and how God uses them to get our focus where it should be.
So maybe the Lord is ,JUST for this time, telling me....to stay focused...but I doubt it, as I know that we all stuggle with looking at situations, problems,things that seem to BIG for the Lord to handle...LIFE.....my answer is like the title of the HYMN says:
"TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS"......
and the things of earth will grow strangely
dim in the light of
HIS Glory and Grace"
My discontent--a confession update June 08 a bit
Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
My STORY
I have known for awhile that I would need to write a bit about what has gone on
in my life and heart for a couple of years...
to make it shorter than longer....
will start at the beginning of a new era in our life together, my husband and I.
Two + years ago we sold our largish home to our daughter/sil...and their family. We wanted to downsize...with having fibromyalgia I just could not keep up. My house was a split level. My husband had totally remodeled the kitchen, given me more cupboards then a woman could ever want. I loved that kitchen...he would paint rooms for me....and my everchanging mind with colors.....
My husband has more energy than anyone I know. I am blessed.
After we moved out...we rented a duplex. It was lovely, 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths...
vaulted ceiling, fireplace and attached two car garage....
well after 2 months there we realized that the management of the area did not control noise and other things.
WE started looking for a place to buy.
My husband had been doing a very long commute to and from work for 7 years. We decided to get closer to his work even though it would mean not being as close to our granchildren. We thought of having a manufactured home put on small bit of property.... a deal had been worked out.......Well the next morning we were to go put a deposit on the home. Neither of us had a peace from the Lord about it......so we went to our salesman and explained to him our reasons(I won't go into them here)....
.God is so good..this man was a Christian and totally understood our situation.
Well, the salesman said to my husband. I have a SINGLE wide mobile home downtown in a beautiful park. It is older and it is a senior park. At that time neither of us was old enough to live there. We drove there and he was right, the mobile home park is beautiful and very well kept.
All I kept thinking is a SINGLE wide mobile home, you got to be kidding.
Ladies you and I know a single wide mobile home is not very large. We thought ,yes we will go see it....the moment we walked in....my sweet, diligent husband got the look of Home Depot Stars in his eyes...... Oh my goodness did this place need work....It was so ugly inside. So dated...so YUCK !!!!!!
Well we bought it.....and we moved into it..putting a large quantity of our belongings in storage.
It has not been easy.
In the three years we have been here...my husband has totally redone the whole inside. He has worked so hard....then...last summer he did vinyl siding on the outside...(my sweet daughter in law Gina spent days learning the art of siding here)my son Matt and son in law Mark..helped with some of the prework on the outside....it was HOT out too....my dh built a wonderful cover over my deck...he has done great landscaping. Our son in law has helped him put laminate flooring in...we have all new windows....the place is wonderful. As I type..he is off this week finishing the last room Believe it or not we have 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms...You would NEVER recognize the transformation. I am learning to love my little house.
I am learning to be content.
It has, and is still a process.
Yet....I am writing to tell you...that for almost the first year or more.
I would complain about it, I would call it my hovel, the tube, the tin box....
some pretty ugly things coming out of my mouth.
I am embarrassed to tell you how many derogatory things I would say about this place...
yet my diligent husband of almost 36 years has kept working away at it....
I am saying all of this....to tell my husband publically...I am SORRY......please ladies...learn from me...
be content with what you have...
.most Americans think it is our right to all have big beautiful houses....
we have NO RIGHTS....
what we have is because of the Lord.
Most Christians in other countries do not live like American Christians...
Learn from me....appreciate what your husband provides...
my attitude has been horrible.
Life is so short.
In the past 4 years, my father, mother and younger brother have gone on to be with the Lord.
I have another younger brother that has brain cancer
. Appreciate all that people do for you.
In my home now....
I am learning to live with less....
but my house is still over flowing.
I am learning to organize creatively......
to be thankful even more for my husband....
I am working on not comparing myself to anyone else.
This is and is still a process
It is hard not to want what others have.
I see it all the time in blogland.
I want to be content.
I believe God honors my desire in this area.
Are you content?
