Battling the devil is difficult, yet defeat is not an option.
The 1860 election in the United States carried more weight than a usual election. Several issues divided Americans during this time in history-states' rights, land grants and usage, and slavery. Less than one hundred years old, the U.S. had spent the first one hundred years of its existence hashing out documents and laws to govern the land. While many laws were contested, both sides had often agreed upon a compromise. Yet the issues listed above had finally come to a head. On one side stood those opposed to both expanding slavery and granting more control to the states. On the other side stood those favoring the continued practice of slavery and the localizing of government. Abraham Lincoln, representing the first side, ran for the Presidency in 1860 and upon his election, eleven Southern states seceded from the Union. Recognizing this act as rebellion, a civil war was declared between the two sides and fighting ensued on April 12, 1861.
Throughout the war, stories are told of common farmers and tradesmen choosing to stand for their beliefs and fighting against their enemies. The battles were fierce, supplies few, yet people were fighting for ideals, and their ideals motivated them to give all they had. One such story is told of a young Southern soldier who was badly wounded in battle by a cannonball. As he was carried off the battlefield in the midst of the fighting, he instructed the medical staff to quickly bandage him so he could continue the fight. Advising against it, they sought help from the commanding officer in convincing the young man to stay in the field hospital. The officer arrived and upon seeing him stated, "Son, you've fought well, but with a missing eye, badly handicapped arm, and lacerated body, you need to stay here at the rear of the battle." The soldier said through tears, "Sir, I respect you, but I'm going to continue fighting. This battle has no rear!"
This young soldier, probably not more than twenty-five years old understood the concept of standing fast, of fighting even when the battle was tough. He was physically hurting, pained, and broken; yet despite what the battle had cost him, he kept fighting.
Your Christian battle is just as real as this soldier's battle. You may not physically wield a weapon, but the fight is ever present. Any Christian who's lived for a period of time can tell you stories of the devil's attacks, temptations, and battles. Some battles are won; some are lost. Many will suffer pains; some will suffer loss; yet God's command in the heat of battle is seen in Galatians 5, "Stand fast."
Every day the devil sends his best combat fighters against you. He strategizes how to best cause you to fall. He tempts you in your areas of weakness. The devil knows you better than most people. You've probably experienced failure, lost battles to his temptations, and fallen in the fight. Yet God's command rings true, "Stand fast."
Whenever you lose a battle remember that the war is already won. Rather than giving up, stand up and continue fighting. Don't let the devil convince you fighting is futile. Yes, you will fall, and you will experience pain, but stand fast.
If you're saved, you no longer have to give in to sin. Satan has no power over your life any more. You are God's child, and now fight on His side. Rejoice, for God has already won the war! Yet each day you will need to fight against the devil's attacks, resist his temptations, and refuse to give in to his devices.
How's the battle going in your life? Have you experienced setbacks? Have you suffered defeat? Don't let the devil win by giving in to him. Gain strength from God's Word, prayer, His church, godly music, godly friends, and the example of other godly fighters; and keep fighting. Remember, even when you fall, get back up, and continue to stand fast.

I am still here, really.

My official Physical Therapy is now over.

I don't have to see the orthopedic surgeon any longer.

For those things, I REJOICE !!

Without going into detail for the whole world to see, I

will add that this has been much more than

just having shoulder and recovering.

I have had some reactions to medications.

I have learned I am very sensitive to meds and have to be careful

to all side effects. It has not been easy. In fact the hardest thing

I have EVER been through.

GOD is STILL GOOD

"HE"....is healing me in many ways.

It is taking time.

but oh...my do we server a powerful Saviour,

a God who can touch the depths of your soul...who

can heal you in many many ways.

I am doing okay , somedays better than others.

I am still sure that prayer works, that family and friends

have been used of the Lord in my life and I am

still RAPTURE READY !!!

It has been 7 plus weeks. I am still in my immobilizer sling. I sleep in my recliner and do physical therapy 5 times a day at home. I go to pt twice a week.
This has been rough, really rough !!!
I am so thankful for my husband and sisters and daughter and their families who do everything for me ! So thankful for those who continue to pray for healing.
So thankful to the Lord who is patient with me when I am not.
Truly the Lord has brought me thus far through much pain and lack of faith.
Just want some of you to know that I don't see on FB,using my ipod touch

Two more days until my surgery. Am I nervous ? "YES"...but I know it is in the Lord's hands. I would love any prayers...for these last two days and of course Friday ! My prayer is that I heal fast and will be back to somewhat NORMAL faster than I anticipate.

I have been so thankful for those of you who have been praying for me the past weeks. I have felt such a "lack of faith" ..I am not proud, but know this is a area I need to work on.

I have my house, Christmas'd...the gifts bought and wrapped (not a whole lot)....cards are being mailed today. I have done some sorting out to make recovery a bit easier.

I have also sped up on my reading through the Bible in a year. I didn't know how good I could read on pain meds....

I will check in when I can ..typing left handed....

I am sorry that I have been so absent from

week in December. It is torn tendons in my right shoulder

Can you see the last lines on this sign ? I took this picture when I was on vacation. We don't have Hobby Lobby where I live.

Now.....I am thinking "what if"...what if, other stores did this ? Would it be possible for more people to go to church ? Would they ? The ramifications of businesses closing on Sundays is a bit overwhelming when I think about it. I have to applaud Hobby Lobby for doing this. As a Christian I am glad that my husband doesn't work on Sundays. I know some "have to" ie: police, fireman, health care etc.....but hmmmm....does everyone else have to?.....yet....aren't we all the reason or part of the reason they do ? We shop on Sundays, we go to restaurants on Sundays. I don't know if this will change any of our family's habits but it sure caught my eye and made me "think"...What do you think ?

This is my daughter, Missy's recipe.
YES...it is a repost....it is that time of the year
You know you saw this recipe somewhere...
so here ya go :
DINNER IN A PUMPKIN
1 med. size pumpkin, topped and cleaned out
1 onion chopped and sautéed w/ground beef1 lb. ground beef, browned and drained
3 Cups Cooked rice (white or brown)
1 can mushrooms or 1 c. fresh mushrooms (optional)
2 can cream of mushroom soup
Salt and pepper to taste (I also add pumpkin pie spice)

Combine ingredients and put in pumpkin.
Put top on pumpkin.
Place pumpkin on cookie sheet in oven preheated to 375 degrees.
Bake for 1 ½ to 2 hours. (you can tell it is done with pumpkin scrapes easily out of the pumpkin)

Serve dinner in pumpkin.
Scrape pumpkin out and serve on top of rice mixture with brown sugar.
Do not open pumpkin while baking or
it will expand and top will not fit on pumpkin again

This week we have had "Prayer Revival" at my church. It started during our Sunday School hour. So we have been preached too and exhorted for 7 separate times on the subject of "PRAYER". The Evangelist was Bro. Benny Beckum.

Last night I was so convicted in my heart that I have not prayed when I have told people that I would pray for them. I can't count the times I have read a blog and said"I will pray for you" and did not. I did not take it seriously enough. Sometimes I may have forgotten, other times, I just did not pray. You may have been one of these persons. You may be a friend, family or a stranger. It does not make a difference. I took this most precious, priviledge and command from God "flippantly".

Dear readers, I apologize to you for not praying for you when I said I would. I am sorry that I did not follow through with your request. I am sorry that I said something and then did not do it. My heart is heavy this morning when I think of all the times I could have done this and the missed opportunities to uphold you and yours in prayer. Please forgive me.

In the future I plan to blog with a notebook. I want to keep track of requests and answers. There is so much to this "praying mandate". I have to take this seriously, God does.

This apology is truly heartfelt. It was a struggle this morning to even sit down and type, yet, I knew the Lord spoke to me about it last night.

Pumpkin craft--I hope you don't mind

I am posting this again.

I plan to make more this year for a few neighbors.

This is so easy to make--
so easy to personalize with embellishment or colors.
You need:
* Dryer vent hose (white plastic)
* Glue Gun
* acrylic paint
* sponge brush
* leaves etc...

Cut the dryer vent hose---easy to figure out
bend to a circle...where the ends will meet.
THEN CAREFULLY
(kids shouldn't help with this part)
hot glue the ends together.
Let the glue dry
Paint with sponge brush.
For the STEM
I used a brown piece of paper bag
crumbled and folded.

I am thankful that more and more Doctors are "getting it"...some maybe just "baby steps". I won't take the meds he mentions because of all the side effects. I have had trouble with meds and being super sensitive to them. It is nice having a doctor go public, for those of us who have been made to feel "less than human" or have been somewhat traumatized by the "unkind words" of a "knowing" physician.

This week a blog friend, wrote and told me she had fibromyalgia. Normally, I would just feel so bad for that person(s) and try to encourage them. This time, I started crying while looking at my laptop. I was thinking, "Please Lord, not another one". I know the battle it is. It is not a death sentence, but it is a up-hill struggle ALMOST everyday. I try not to dwell on it, or even blog on it. Today I will only because, there will be people with "Chronic diseases" come in your life. Be gentle with them....it is a lonely walk. Why, because...truly in my case, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is oh so weak". I say "no" to most things. I do everything in spurts. I can walk into a store and browse for minutes compared to what I used to do...I most often will leave my husband to wait in line or finish as I just need to get to the car, I hurt so bad. My sleep is horrible...most people with fibro have this symptom.

I get asked most often about meds. Well, it seems like everything has it's side effects, right now the side effects seem to make everything worse. I tend to "bite the bullet". I can't get tough, or "man up"...and let me tell you IF anyone I know had this just for a few hours, they would finally "get it". I am not bitter--that passed long ago. I just miss the "old me". I think those I love, miss the old Deby. So today, I write a bit more about this struggle, just in case you or someone you know gets stricken with this. I know it could be WORSE. I CLING to:

As the central nervous system becomes more sensitized, pain becomes more intense in response to any given stimulus, and this pain does not diminish as quickly as it does in a healthy individual. Eventually, the pain remains long after the stimulus or cause has ended. The FM patient feels amplified pain, and also may experience sensations of pain in response to normally nonpainful stimuli such as noise, touch, and light. The cognitive dysfunction that may also accompany FM can massively disrupt the patient’s lifestyle. You keep losing things, and you begin to think that one of them is your mind. The world has become a game where the rules change daily, and nobody tells you what they are. You can easily become overwhelmed.”

Seen yesterday at my local Costco.

When I think about it..Christmas is just around the corner.
........I want to enjoy Autumn first though...
I have been giving some thought on starting a shopping list.
Looking for some little things....
no FaLaLaLaLa...yet for me.
but before you know it,
my TREE will be up...and the Carols will be playing.
Truth is, I start the Christmas Carols pretty early.

My niece, Jenna took this. This is my little girl, Chloe. Jenna took many pictures for me (not fond of the camera these days).....yes...she took some **Before** pictures for me. Now if you have been reading my blog, you didn't really think I would show, the OTHERS, did you ?
For right now this is the best I can do. Chloe doesn't really care to pose for pictures, her ears seem to always go back for some reason...maybe someday I can show more BUT not right now...I am sure MANY of you understand.

Have you ever gone on a ferry ? I really do enjoy it.

We have seen so many beautiful sights, it is a leisurely thing to do.

In our neck of the woods, MANY people do this everyday to get back and forth to work.

I don't think they see this as a *getaway*

If you ever can, I recommend this form of transportation.

Take a cuppa your favorite, be it tea or coffee...then....

RELAX...and enjoy the beauty God, not mother nature has created.

I have to do this. Reality is "ruff".....so I am re-joining Weight Watchers today. I am doing it with my husbands blessing. I will try hard to stick to whole foods and keep trying to eat as much organic as we can afford. I have many scriptures the Lord has been giving me the past weeks in regards to this area of my life....it's time to get serious, seriously.

My grandma's leaves

These were my grandmothers. They are templates. I think she drew them by hand and it appears they were done on a old manilla folder or something. She kept them in this little box ? Do any of you even remember Perry Como? I used to have a whole bunch of the leaves she made with these. She would trace them on construction paper and cut and color them with crayons and then hang them up. I was able to use them many years in my home and windows. The veins in the leaves are cut thinly with something like a exacto knife..I am not sure. It was a slit to be able to draw the veins on her leaves. My grandmother was very crafty and a great seamstress and gardener. I didn't grow up around her. I flew out twice as a married adult and got to spend some time with her. She is in Heaven now and I look forward to the reunion one day.

As much as I love Autumn, I "know" nothing will compare with Heaven and I know for sure I am going. I hope you do too.

You can tell the season is changing--especially in blogland. It seems like so many of us just love this time of year. Many live in areas where there isn't a real distinct change, yet create it themselves in their homes. I haven't pulled out my touches yet, but plan to soon.

Autumn is a beautiful time of year, here. I know some call it Fall, to include myself. I was just thinking this morning, I "LOVE" the way the word, "Autumn" sounds. I am going to use it more than the other. I will have to work at it....."Autumn, Autumn, Autumn" ...I am practicing on you,my blog friends. (smile)

Tomorrow at my JoAnne's, McCall's patterns are going on SALE for $1.99 each.
They do this with the other brands as well, from time to time.
When I get there, often there are not enough catalogs to browse through.
Soooo...I have started to go on-line ahead of time and browse the catalog on my computer instead of trying to make decisions at the store. Here is the link to McCall's just in case there is something you might be needing. Grab your pen and a piece of paper to write down the numbers and Voila', just take them in a pick them up......My problem is, I sometimes FORGET where I put "that paper" ???? ..... anyone else do that ?

Dancing lights

This is August or at least for one more day, isn't it ? We are having a rainy, Autumn'ish day here.

It is kind of dark out today, a bit dreary...so time for some mood lights, and good smells. I plugged in my "Tart burner" (thank you to my sister Trudy) and just loved the way the lights danced all over. It seems so "early" to be doing this. We didn't really get much of a summer. So a girl has to do what a girl has to do....and "what is, is"... so if Fall days are upon us and rainy days are on the way, I will help things seem less dark in my home. I like to use low lights here and there,nice fragrances etc.Today I am burning a older Yankee Tart, "Tea and Honey" and also drinking a cup of hot tea as I enjoy this moment. We may get more summer days, which will be great,until then, I will brighten up my spot a bit.

Old fashioned girl at heart

I am doing quite a bit of reading these days. I have most of Grace Livingston Hill's books. When I read her books, there are always lessons that the Lord shows me. I am reading "Bright Arrows" right now, published in 1946. Grace and I may have a few minor doctrinal differences, but not many. What I like about her books is that when people got saved, they were Changed ! Her women tend to have real servant's hearts and have a humilty about them. Some of the words are a bit old fashioned, but I am a old fashioned girl at heart....(smile) I have found most of mine in thrift stores, yard sales or Craig's list.

This morning, I read the following from "Bright Arrows" :

"Dear Lord, here is something again that I don't know how to manage, and can't do anything about. Won't You please take over, and help me to trust it utterly to You? Show me just what to say and do."

I don't know about you, but that is my prayer too...

This is Nehemiah. He is 4 years old and is my sister, Lisa's youngest. People will ask what do you call him for short ? Well....we call him "Nehemiah". We just love this little guy, and being the youngest in his family he has the ability to get away with things.......... when they come to our home and stay Nehemiah loves to climb up on his uncles lap. My husband loves it. It works out so good when my sister comes, her kids are so quiet when it is time for us to go to bed (early) and don't hear us when we are up...very very very early. My mom and dad would have just loved this little guy, they are not here.....we are here....so we get the chance to love him ALMOST like a grandson...and his siblings too. My house is always in better shape after Lisa has been here--yes even after her 5 children and this time there were 2 of my grandsons. I am too in a different sort of way, I think many of you know what I mean.

When I colored them I used mainly COPIC markers
You can use Sharpies or also the BIC markers.
You CANNOT use watercolor types, your ink
from your printer will bleed....and it will be a mess.
I used my ink jet printer.

These are some of the prints I have done. I print them on cardstock and just relax and color. I think it is a relaxing thing to do. I plan to turn mine into cards.

Some do, some don't ....I do...I iron. I don't have a basket of ironing. I hang things up from the dryer and then iron what I (we) are going to wear that day. I found that when I had ironed clothes hanging in the closet, somehow they would end up getting to wrinkley for my taste. So ..yes I do iron...not everything, not sheets or pillowcases (once in awhile pillowcases for the guest bed)...but just about everything else....always my slip....under my skirt..you know wrinkley slips can show through.....and I have a husband that buys me a Rowenta iron...and we use it until it dies and then we get another.....I know not everyone IRONS...oh well....I do...and hope I can, until I go home to meet the Lord...I just like the way ironed clothes look on a person, and I scoff at the words, permanent press, who are they kidding ??

Plus Size Swing

When I was a little girl one of my most favorite things to do was to *swing*. I could get in a swing and and it would seem like the cares of day, would seem to pass away. It was so relaxing. I can close my eyes and recall some special times in a swing, just like it was yesterday. I remember one summer evening, swinging to moonlight and belting out this song:

I am older....not that old...but loved this picture.
I would love a swing. A "Plus Size" Swing.....I think, I might be tempted to swing in the moonlight and still belt out that song. Oh, would it feel differently now...the words through the years have taken on such a depth of meaning. I am ordering food from a company called:

I pick mine up in my town.

The people who are the pick-up point,

make no money for doing this.

I order straight from the company

and pay the company...

not the pick up point people.

This is my first order. I am buying all organic,

their prices are cheaper than my local stores.

You do not have to buy such big sizes.

This has been a VERY unhealthy time of my life.

I am trying, within our budget to eat more healthier.

It is work, especially on the days I feel so crummy.

I had bloodwork done at my naturopath

(which my insurance does not cover)

that showed which foods I am sensitive to.

so now I am staying away from:

ALL DAIRY, EGGS, WHEAT,YEAST,and a few

other things. I am not on any artifical sweetners or sugar.

I use stevia. It is a BIG change. I am doing what I can.

I am thankful my husband is not a picky kind of guy

and he is so willing to try new things.

I am reading, researching....yet knowing

that these things that are causing my body so much

pain and fatigue may be here to stay.

I am not doing it *perfect*, there is no such thing.

Sometimes it feels like I am getting nowhere, fast.

I am just sharing a good food source for those who might be interested.

Today I saw this picture I had saved. I can't tell
you where I got it, but it sure put a smile on my face.It just looks appealing to me. I don't think it is the aspect of wanting to
"take-off "or "runaway" but just to feel the GLEE that these two ladies do.
I wouldn't want to do something irresponsible,
just maybe a little lighted-hearted jaunt or even a little road trip with a friend. I don't think I would even need a map,
I do like the thought of a convertible....maybe even a hat.
Yes, I would need a hat as my hair would be a MeSs !!! I just think it looks fun, that is all. I have VERY fond memories as a child of lots of road trips.
I have great memories as a wife, mother and as a empty nester,sister and friend.
Yes my life has consisted of many,many,many hours on the road.
Many days on the road.I Hope the Lord allows some more, if not, that is okay. I will smile at pictures and cherish memories.....

This is our new grass that was put down and
has lovingly been watered by me. This young
mom loved it here. Sure she is sweet, but I am sorry
I do not want anyone messing with this grass.

Tucked underneath her wings were three little babies.

know I don't play Farmville anymore?

My beloved had to do a light sprinkling of the hose
to get her out of her comfort zone, my new lawn.

It's everywhere....it is called:

Scotch Broom

It is a weed and you can see it everywhere you look.

It was brought to this area many years ago

but it is now illegal to use as a garden shrub or to plant

more of the seeds. People hate it. When it is

not blooming it is a really ugly plant.

My husband loves when it blooms

as, yellow is his favorite color.

....it is deceptive isn't it.

Kind of like SIN...

Season tree--SPRING

This is what I have done to

my tree. I left a few ornaments on it

and then added Forsythia garland.

I did it because my husband's

favorite color is yellow.

I strung some pearl beads for the bird

to have a little necklace.

This tree has looked pretty

with the lights on or off.

In a dark climate like ours, we really

have enjoyed the glow from the lights.

I am not committing to keeping

it up all year, at this moment.

We have enjoyed it thus far but

right now, I am not sure I can physically

do the work to keep going on this project.

I am trying to get some relief from my

fibromyalgia and all that fibro does to ones body.

I am reading this book, my husband got it for me

from Amazon. I am so thankful he understands.

Part of this process will be having some blood testing done.

It is not covered by my insurance.

I was thinking today

"I can read this book, and then never heed it"

then... of course

I realized I do the same with the

WORD of GOD

My Bible

I know I am only fooling myself--and oh

what peace I give up by not being a doer of the WORD.

I have been thinking of this verse so much lately.

I am home so much and sometimes can feel discouraged

and the Lord keeps bringing this verse to mind:

Psalms 101:2

I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way.

O when wilt thou come unto me?

I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

I think this is a great verse to memorize when

you seem like you are overwhelmed in your home...or maybe

sometimes it can seem like drudgery and the *enemy* wants

to tell you, that being a homemaker is useless...you know all

of the many circumstances that can seem to undermine

the job of being a homemaker. For me it has been health issues.

I love how the Lord has verses for every life situation in

HIS WORD.

This spoke to me, and hope it does to you too.

Did you ever get a phone call, that was so unexpected?

I did awhile back...not too long ago.

The Lord had put it on "someones heart"

to buy me something.

This was a hard thing to receive.

WHY...well it wasn't cheap , for one thing.

and truly in my heart I felt unworthy of something like this.

They insisted.

So this is my new friend...isn't she grand ?

It is just perfect for someone with back problems....

someone in chronic pain....

it was from the Lord, indeed.

Why?

Because I believe this scripture applies:

Galations 6:10

As we have therefore opportunity, let

us do good unto all men,

especially unto them

who are of the household of faith.

Yes, it was hard to accept something like this.

Isn't it easier, to give than receive ???

It is a lesson to listen to that small

voice when the Lord says to do something...

doesn't have to be BIG....but you just never know the impact

you can have on someone by being obedient.

BTW...I did not mention the someones'

who bought me this,...to help me get healthy....

I am hinting...to those who know me.

I know SHE(and her husband) don't want to get the glory.

But I just had to share my blessing...

and at the end of my visit I asked him what to use on

my cracked heals....this is what he recommended--

and LOVE IT

So many of you dear friends have written and

asked how I am. I am having some foot pain return.

I am seeing my podiatrist and also still going to

physical therapy...some good days---some rough days...

but all allowed by the LORD--

It could be worse,

Just trusting the Lord !!!

I plan to keep these ones on until

March or April

We are really enjoying it.

The glow of the lights ....

It really has been a fun little project.

I used curling ribbon for garland..

I made many of the things with die cuts

and sticker and rhinestone sticker thingies..

and whatever I could think of....

NOW....I am thinking of what I will do

for SPRING....

Got a theme going in my mind..

Glimpse of my Season Tree

This is a glimpse of my

"Season Tree"

I used a punch to make light pink and dark pink snowflakes.

The little strings of hearts are made with stickers strung on quilt thread.

I used a punch for a paper type yo-yo--

Today I am working on my tree a bit...

This stuff will stay on through February.

I am trying to make this simple--fun--

We are enjoying the glow of the lights.

Awhile back, can't remember when.

We were at my friend Rose's house.

She showed me a card she had received with the above picture on it.

It is a painting by artist, Kathy Fincher.

Welllllll....we were at what is called "Preachers Delight".

Gracious Christian Living was there and had a table set up.

I was so excited to find this painting matted and framed.

The price was a DEAL. I couldn't refuse and was able to

purchase one for Rose and myself. I love this painting.

Haven't you done this with children? I know I have.

There is a innocence to this painting that I just love.

Gracious Christian Living has a website and you can request a catalog.

You might find something just right for your home.

I miss the glow

I always miss the glow of my tree...

so this year I have decided to try and

keep the glow going...especially

since we have so many months of dark, dreary days.

We got this cheap...at K-mart.

I am thinking I would like to make it a

"Season tree"

Have lots of ideas swirling in my mind.

It's just at the beginning stages right now..

but thought some of you might want to see it...

Lots of potential, is what I see...
